Why Ethiopia?

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee and it has been grown there for over 200 years. There is a tremendous need in Ethiopia to improve the quality of life and to invest in critical projects such as clean water, health and education.

 

Why Coffee?

Coffee is the second-most traded commodity in the world. More than 2 million cups of coffee are consumed each day in the United States alone. The 20 million Ethiopian coffee farmers responsible for creating this wonderful drink are making $500 per year. We are work with coffee farming communities by introducing farmers to modern equipment such as rakes and coffee nurseries and innovative techniques to produce better quality coffee.

 

What kind of training do you provide?

The Abyssinian Fund has two project coordinators living and working in Ethiopia. These coffee experts provide field training about how to properly harvest and select high-quality coffee beans. With the new techniques and modern equipment, provided by The Abyssinian Fund, farmers have noticed an increase and better-quality beans. The Abyssinian Fund also connects the farmers with buyers interested in paying premium prices for the finer beans.

 

How much of my donation goes to projects in Ethiopia?

Each month we train 100 farmers. Your donation ensures their education and training. These lessons are crucial for the farmers who learn efficient methods of producing a high quality coffee yield.

Is TAF a tax-exempt organization?

Yes. The Abyssinian Fund is a private, charitable organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. All gifts to The Abyssinian Fund are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by U.S. law.

 

Does TAF offer volunteer opportunities?

Yes. The Abyssinian Fund needs volunteers for a variety of different tasks. Campaigns, mailings, event planning, etc… If you have any interest in donating your time to our cause, and for more information, email us at info@abyfund.org.

 

Is TAF a religious organization?

No. Although the President, Reverend Richards is a Minister at The Abyssinian Baptist Church, The Abyssinian Fund is a non-religious, organization working Ethiopia.

 

Can I purchase coffee made by the farmers in Chaffee Jenette?

No. For now, the best way to get the delicious coffee, with your donation you can make a request for a package or two of coffee.

 

Can I donate stock?

Yes, a gift of appreciated stock or securities will go a long way to help The Abyssinian Fund, as well as provide you with significant income tax advantages.
