ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
The Abyssinian Fund offers training, equipment and local expertise to improve the farmers’ ability to produce and harvest the best coffee. What this means in the long run is that Chaffee Jenette farmers can market this higher quality coffee to international buyers at a premium price to support continued improvement in the region’s human services.
WATER
Clean water means healthier farmers. While the focus is on the coffee farmers, The Abyssinian Fund knows that water is the lifeblood of the community. What’s needed are more wells, dams, water harvesting, and irrigation systems. What the Fund is doing is educating local community members to find better methods to access this greatly needed resource.
HEALTH
By partnering with the Chaffee Jenette farmers and other organizations, the Abyssinian Fund will assess the health needs and concerns. In time, the Fund will work with organizations that will create new clinics and train local community health workers. Through its partners, the Fund will make sure that the farmers have the necessary medical equipment, pharmaceutical supplies and knowledge to lower the rate of preventable deaths.
EDUCATION
The Abyssinian Fund’s partner organizations will train literacy specialists to support the community’s existing schools, and to build new ones. There will be particular emphasis on primary aged children and unemployed women. Additionally, the partners will dedicate its resources to making sure the secondary school students (ages 9 to 17 years old) learn more about agriculture, business and growing the world’s best coffee.
