Rev. Itang H. Young
Rev. Itang H. Young applies her extensive and multifaceted experience in leadership and development as Executive Director of The Abyssinian Fund, Inc. In this capacity, Rev. Young manages international operations, while driving the development and implementation of organizational strategy to ensure the organization’s continual contribution to the ongoing poverty reduction efforts in Ethiopian coffee farming communities.
Rev. Young brings to this position a unique combination of relevant skills, background, and experience including: fundraising and development skills, project management expertise, and extensive leadership experience with both major corporations and international entities. Currently, she serves as a DPI-NGO (Department of Public Information & Non-Governmental Organization) representative at the United Nations.
Rev. Young was born in Beaumont, Texas and raised in Houston; however, it was her bi-cultural African- American and Nigerian heritage that motivated her to become involved in global affairs. As an engineering student at Texas A&M University, her commitment to global engagement began to blossom. She received numerous scholarships that allowed her to complete a portion of her degree requirements at the world-renowned Moscow State University in Moscow, Russia where she earned a certificate in Business, Law and Diplomacy. She has also been afforded the opportunity to study in France, England, and Mexico. Her education and training allowed her to secure competitive internships and co-operative learning experiences with NASA Johnson Space Center in the International Partners and Shuttle Engineering Offices, and Texas Instruments, Inc.
Numerous organizations have formally recognized Rev. Young’s commitments and contributions to the global community including: the Sister to Sister Spirit of Appreciation Award for the Empowerment of Women & Girls in Uganda (2014); the HealthFirst Women Who Nurture Church and Community Award (2015); and the New York Metropolitan College Phenomenal Woman of Power Award (2016).
Rev. Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution Engineering from the Dwight Look College of Engineering at Texas A&M University – College Station in 2006. Upon graduation, she began her career in the Engineered Products Division with the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company in Akron, OH. After a brief, yet rewarding career, she left corporate America to pursue her call to theological education. In 2009, she matriculated into the Union Theological Seminary in the City of New York where she earned a Master of Divinity degree in Pastoral Care and Theology. Rev. Young also currently serves as the Assistant Minister for Youth at the historic Abyssinian Baptist Church in the City of New York.
